Chapter 18

A few days later and we are all heading home from the hospital. Vivienne passed all of her tests with flying colors and the last day of our stay she got to spend in my room with me and Chris. I carefully dressed her in her new little outfit, kissing her little hands and feet as I went, taking every opportunity to smell her and soak her in. I tucked her pink blanket from her brothers around her in her car seat as we drove into our new neighborhood. I don't know how she did it but Ms Racheal has managed to orchestrate our move while caring for my boys and visiting me in between in the hospital.

Pulling up to the two story beauty there is a welcome home sign on the front door that I know Connor and Noah made themselves. Wiping a tear from my eyes Chris helps me stand from the car, I am feeling better but I'm not completely recovered yet.

The front door opens and Ms Racheal, Mr Bob, the boys and my dad come spilling out excitedly. The boys run up to Vivienne in her seat asking to hold her while my dad lifts her from the car.

Carefully I make my way inside with Chris and his dad Mr Bob's support. Stepping through the double doors the front foyer leads directly into the large living room. Chris' couch and living room furniture have been moved over already and I'm so happy that I didn't get to do any shopping before the accident. Next to the living room is an open kitchen that leads to a formal dining room that still needs a table. On the kitchen island are fresh flowers and on the fridge is a single photo held up with a heart shaped magnet. A photo of me and the boys in the hospital while I was still pregnant.

This is the first home I've ever purchased and while it was not under the best circumstances I'm so happy to have a place we can call our own forever. The picture means the world to me.

Shuffling into the living room the boys get into position on the couch to hold the baby. They take turns greeting her while it's their turn to hold her. Despite the heartache and fear that lead to this moment my chest is bursting with love and relief. Seeing all of my children happily together in our home, surrounded by people who truly just wanted the best for me, for us.

Soon the boys have had their fill and want to show me their new rooms. Up stairs the boys have been busy. As promised Ms Racheal took them each to get new bed room furniture.

Connor showed me his room first. His walls were a light gray and he had chosen outer space decorations along with matching bedding. It was a bit of a big boy upgrade from his room at our previous house and I could tell by the way he proudly showed it all off to me that he was excited about it.

Next was Noah, he had light blue walls and went with sharks and boats for his theme and bedding. I could instantly tell as he tore through his things, happy to share them with me, that he had put much less thought into the things he had picked out, choosing what made him happy in the moment.

I smiled at their different personalities, loving them both for exactly who they are. Both boys had also gotten a few new clothes to fill their dressers and hang in their closets I noticed.

"Where did your cool new clothes come from?" I asked Noah.

"That was me." My dad spoke up. "I'm ashamed I haven't seen you all in 5 years and clearly I've missed so much just being in my own head. I had a great time shopping together and getting to know my grandsons better, I wanted to do something to help get them settled here too." He says smiling at Noah and Connor who in turn beam back at him.

"Thank you, that means a lot." I say hugging him. We continue down the hall with the bedroom parade.

The master is next, opening the door I see they moved Chris's bedroom set here as well. Next to the bed is a small side sleeping bassinet for Vivienne until she is old enough to spend the night away from me. There is a beautiful bouquet of roses and a vanilla candle burning too. It's cozy and comfortable here and I can't wait to go to bed with Chris by my side later.

"We can pick out new furniture together when you feel up to it. I didn't want to get anything in here without you, same with the couch downstairs none of that has to stay." Chris tells me.

"It's perfect" I smile at him and he leans in to kiss me.

"Gross." Noah says making a face. We all chuckle at him.

"You better get used to it buddy! Mommy has a lot more kisses coming her way!" Chris laughs at him.

The last room we have to see is the nursery. I started one at my old house for her and I didn't get to take anything with me. My heart is pounding as Chris opens the door for me to walk through. It's perfect. The walls are a soft dusty lavender with 2 large paper butterflies hanging above her crib, the bedding on it is grey and white stripped. An overstuffed cushioned rocker sits in the corner of the room, next to wall shelves filled with picture books. A string of fairy lights hangs around the shelves giving a soft light perfect for late night times when you don't want it to be too bright. Across from the rocking chair are a changing table and dresser also filled with little outfits and onesies. Standing in the same spot by her window as when we toured the house for the first time, we looked into the back yard. Along the edges of the patio are two flower beds completely neglected and full of weeds.

"You never told me what kind of flowers you would want out there," Chris asks me while wrapping his arms around me from behind.

"Tulips," I say.

"I think that will be a beautiful baby," he says, smiling against my ear.

"I can't wait to look out at the pretty flowers with her in my arms." I said while looking at her perfect little face.

The doorbell ringing pulls everyone's attention out of the room. We all make our way downstairs but Chris makes it to the door first, opening it to reveal Detective Summers and another friendly faced officer.

"Hello everyone, glad to see you're feeling better," he directed the last part to me. Ms Racheal and Mr Bob say their goodbyes as the two men step inside. Apparently he was at their house yesterday and they already got the rundown we are about to receive. Kissing us all and promising to call and come back soon they slip out the front door.

"Let me introduce you to officer Mike Green, he will be on the first surveillance shift for you guys, he will stay in an unmarked car out front so you won't even notice him but he'll be watching the property. The officer that relieves him will introduce himself when they change shifts and give you his info also. Here's officer Green's card and number, if you see anything or have any concerns call him he'll be right out front." He says passing Chris a business card and then me as well.

"Call me Mike please." He says, extending his hand to us both. "Let me know if anything seems out of the ordinary or if you have any concerns in general while I'm here."

"Has there been any word of her?" I ask him. He shakes his head no.

"We're watching her condo and her bank accounts, she'll run out of cash or slip up eventually, don't let it bother you too much." Easier said than done I think to myself.

"Thank you Mike." He thanks Chris and I both and returns to his car out front.

We spent the rest of the day hanging out with all of us and my dad in the living room. I'm figuring out a system with Vivienne at home and I'm moving around a little better than I thought I would be.

"Dad, do you want to stay here tonight or are you still at Ms Racheals house?" I asked him as we got closer to dinner time. He and Chris share a smile.

"Actually honey I slept at Chris's house last night, there's still furniture in the guest room and he said I could stay and use it for as long as I wanted. I think I may stick around after all this is all resolved if that's ok with you." He grins at me.

"Of course it's ok with me!" I said pulling him in for a hug. Chris and the boys all cheered from behind him.

"I am going to head out and give you some time home alone, you're doing a great job kiddo. I'm proud of you." He said as he made his way to the front door.

Chris, the kids, and I shared our first dinner in the new house that night and for the first time in weeks I let myself get a little excited about the future. I love the new house and I was so thankful the big part of the move was already over, I just had to make it a home now.

After tucking both boys in their new beds later and settling in to feed Vivienne one more time before closing my own eyes I let out the breath I didn't realize I had been holding for over a month now.
